MADONNA: American Life’s Sixth Birthday
I’m totally a day late and a dollar short with this one but never mind! The wonderful American Life album by Madonna was six years old yesterday. This album is one of my personal favorites, I know many people that love it as much as I do and many that hate it.
What I love about it is that the acoustic stripped down songs, really show off Madonna’s voice and make the album feel that much more personal, I really feel like this one is totally ‘her’ without the influence of too many producers, it’s just Madonna, Monte and a couple guitars. I also love the more electronic tracks, the fantastic Nobody Knows Me and Mother and Father. The only song on here that I could do without is the title track, the release of which I believe screwed up the whole release, in my opinion after that clunker of a track (and associated video mess) people didn’t want to give the album a shot.
Another reason to love this album is that there were some great promo shows, and it paved the way for the brilliant Reinvention Tour, during which these songs came alive. Who can forget the glorious Nobody Knows Me and Madonna’s strut down that catwalk?
