This morning I woke up sad and still in shock over the death of an all time great- Michael Jackson. If like me you you grew up in the 80's/90's his music was the soundtrack to your life. The first record I ever remember playing was Bad which I used to play day in day out when I got it age 4, I have vivid images of dancing around my bedroom to smooth criminal. Another great memory of mine is discovering the 'Off The Wall" album in college and dancing with my friends around our house ( a true testament to a great album that 20 something years later it sounds just as good.) I like many, remember thinking that Mike was the coolest guy in the universe. Many an hour was spent trying to pull of his moves but in my case failing miserably! I feel lucky to have grown up with his music, never again will we see someone do it like Mike. Rest in Peace.

Every now and then you hear a song that takes you back in time. This is WHAT IS LOVE by HADDAWAY from 1993. I think everybody loves this song... it's the very definition of a classic, to this day whenever this comes on in a club everyone old enough to remember it (yes I'm getting old!) starts high fiving and grinning from ear to ear before busting a move! Curiously titled Yeah Yeah Yeah, La La La this tune (while pretty nifty on its own) sounds much better squished into a 40 second clip rather than stretched out full length. Love the high pitched vocals tho! Sounds a bit like Sam Sparro's 'Cut Me Loose'.

I just realized that I have never posted about ANGIE STONE on this blog! That's just wrong! Tonight I'm taking it down a notch and relaxing listening to one of my favorite albums of all time MAHOGANY SOUL.
In my opinion this is Angie's finest work - a glorious soulful chill out album. I don't think I'll ever tire of songs like 'I Wish I Didn't Miss You' 'Pissed Off' and 'Brotha.' Angie has one of those delightful voices that easily convey emotion and draw you in making you feel a part of her story.
I had the pleasure of seeing Angie live in concert in 2004 and it was simply one of the best concerts I've ever been too such a wonderful live act we not only got marvellous soul music but comedy too! Check her out if you ever get the chance!

Frozen, released in Feb 98, re-appeared in The Goddess' Re-Invention & Drowned World Tour's, and was banned to the masses in a Belgian courtroom and watched on Youtube by thousands during 5 minutes of silence on the radio. Frozen's melody makes goosebumps crawl up your arm from the first time your ears hear the cascade of strings. Victor Calderone, who in '98 was just emerging from the after hour crack dens and into tribal stardom, is a definite one to choose to reinvent a song. I love this remix, wait for the strings!

Oh lord here we go again! MARIAH premiered her new single OBSESSED today. I am hoping that the album holds some better material as this track doesn't do much for me. I was kinda expecting a great first single... this is just average with tired production. Bring back the good old days of 'Someday!' While we're ragging on Mariah this new shoot could have been an outtake from The Emancipation of Mimi sessions! Get a new look girl!

I am really feeling the GOSSIP right now! I got home last night to find a lovely lady from Sony had sent us an advance copy the new album MUSIC FOR MEN and let me tell you its hot. If you loved 'Standing In The Way Of Control' you'll love this... they don't stray too far from the path, sticking with kick ass electro sounds and killer drums mixed with Beth's trademark wailing.
My favorite cuts are the fantastic single 'Heavy Cross,' 'Men In Love' (I love how Beth wails "naaah naaah naaahhh men in love" LOL) and 'Love and Let Love.' I think that is is one of those albums that will really come alive in concert, I hope to see them tour the US (you can see their European Dates on their website.)
I'm also loving this new video just released for 'Heavy Cross' I enjoy the sleek black and gold theme and the effects are subtle but cool!
THE RADIO DEPT. are from Sweden, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to find new music! Check out David, a lush 3 minute trip to an indie disco, complete with gritty filtered vocals. They've been compared to St. Etienne which I can see hints of in this track.

I'm not quite sure what to make of the video, to be honest I was itching for it to just end. It's nothing like the amazing 4 minute epic video that accompanied Wrong, which you must check out.

Sweden is chock full of amazing talent, and FRIDAY BRIDGE is no exception. They've just released a new album called Bite My Tongue. Fans of Sally Shapiro will love the remix we have to share with you today by the man behind it all, Johan Agebjörn. I also hear a bit of Lykke Li in their material as well. Great indie electro-pop!

So MADONNA did have an official video ready for MILES AWAY. A one minute preview of it leaked today! It's just tour footage mixed with some new scenes but it makes you wonder why they never released it!
I think this video was a missed opportunity! We could have had sad & tortured Madonna a la the Bad Girl video, with a Guy Ritchie lookalike playing the bad guy.... but I suppose with the divorce that would have cut a bit close to the bone!
