Warm Up at MomaPS1 With Solange, Grimes and more (Review)

Visiting MomaPS1 was recently featured in Time Out as one of the  ‘must do’ things over the Summer in NYC. Quite frankly I could not agree more! On Saturday 8/20, the Hard Candy team headed over the bridge to Queens to enjoy some music and soak up the atmosphere at Warm Up, the weekly summer concert series at MomaPS1.

First up was Grimes who I managed to catch a few months back opening for Lykke Li (check out the review). I’m just fascinated by this oddly mystical chick. Her set was nothing short of incredible, she was a one man operation up there singing and fiddling the decks at the same time. Pretty impressive stuff!

Another highlight was Blood Orange aka Devonte Hynes. We started his set rocking hard with his guitar and ended it was a rather spectacular jump into the crowd while still playing the guitar! He was eventually joined on stage by Solange. They blew the crowd away with a track that I wasn’t familiar with but greatly enjoyed.

Her performance with Blood Orange was unfortunately her only song of the night but she took the decks for a half hour set that included many classic like All Night Long which Matt just posted about, TLC’s Creep which you can never go wrong with, an Amerie tune from a few years back and Mariah‘s Fantasy remix featuring OBD. Could it get any better than that?

There are still a couple of shows left at PS1 before Summer is over (ugh I know!) and you should definitely check them out if you’re in the mood for enjoy some tunes in the sun! Check the full schedule here.
