Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor & The Pointer Sisters Take The Runway and Perform at Etam’s Paris Fashion Week Show

French lingerie brand Etam pulled out all the stops at their Paris Fashion Week runaway show recruiting Grace Jones, Chaka Khan, Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor & The Pointer Sisters to model outfits and perform on the runaway!

Grace Jones alone would have been enough to get me excited but when you add Chaka Khan who is another of my favorite divas, and some of disco’s finest in the mix, it’s enough to send me over the edge!

Grace set the mood for the evening perfectly kicking things off singing the sensual La Vie En Rose, from high up on the stage,  one foot up on a speaker, dressed in her now trademark black leotard and eye mask. I’ll forgive her for the oddly screeched note (at 2.20) because she more than makes up for it with that epic purr at the end of the song!

Up next were the The Pointer Sisters who gave an energetic performance I’m So Excited as models in array of black and gold lingerie strutted down the runaway. Then came the legendary Chaka Khan with the classic Ain’t Nobody, a song that I’ll never tire of, Gloria Gaynor then entered singing I Am What I Am and was followed by Sister Sledge doing He’s The Greatest Dancer.

The evening ended on a high note when everyone joined Sister Sledge on stage for a performance of the 1978 classic We Are Family. There’s so much I love about this, from Grace’s beyond fierce catwalk strut, which was in sharp contrast to Chaka’s wildly over the top entrance, running in waving that fan and screeching like she only she can. Also, is it me or does Grace not know the words or care to sing them? You just hear a few low notes from her every now and again – marvelous!
