“destined to be the quintessential winter 2010 album, a soft, red smear of blood on a field of fresh snow.“
How many times do I have to say that Sweden produces some of the best music in the world? What the hell is in their water!? Tthe ‘fit for winter’ jj nº 3 will be released on March 9 via Secretly Canadian, a little after the coldest of winter has subsided…but anytime is a great time for some jj. These tunes always warm me up and take my mind away from current surroundings onto an island somewhere that no-one can reach, but those that I invite. I watch the palm trees sway and let myself get taken away by Let Go.
All the bloggers and press alike go crazy when something new from Marina & The Diamonds is released, and with due justice. She’s got great tunes, my favorites being I Am Not a Robot and the current single Hollywood. While we eagerly wait for the full length debut, enjoy The Juan MacLean‘s nu-disco/DFA inspired take on the track. Pump up the BPM + throw those orchestral stabs in – it’s time to dance!
Dragonette are hitting the road this Spring with Little Boots and, one of my favorites of ’09, Fan Death! You’ll want to check each of their official sites for dates as they continue to change. I’ve got a sugar-high dance-tastic remix of Pick Up The Phone by Michael Van She to hold us over until tour time!
The new album, Fixin To Thrill is a real trip. Preview all the tracks in full below via my newest obsession, Lala. Standouts are Pick Up The Phone, Liar and Big Sunglasses.
Back to the tour for a second. Little Boots has achieved quite a lot of popularity this past year, however I didn’t really enjoy her debut, Hands all that much…to be honest. I hope the same happens for Dragonette and Fan Death as they deserve the communities recognition just as much…if not more.
If you haven’t seen the back-to-high-school-now-that-we-are-adults-and-dont-give-a-shit video for Pick Up the Phone, watch below. It’s a treat. Directed by Drew Lightfoot. – Matt
On February 8, the highly anticipated new full length from Massive Attack will travel its way through our ears. It’s leaked in full already on the web, and I have to say it’s worth the listen (over and over again). The anticipation (for me at least) has been fueled by the jaw-wide-open-the-whole-timevideo for Paradise Circus the Hope Sandoval fronted track with a video so hot, porn does nothing for me anymore! Okay, I went too far…and i’m lying anyway.
Anyway, check out the first of a series of remixes to promote the new album. Enjoy She Is Danger‘s take on the Horace Andy fronted Girl I Love You. A little dubstep in there, still got that trippy-hop sound. Just what we needed from Massive Attack. Pre-order the album in it’s many formats here. – Matt
