We’ve got a big soft spot for the elusive Sally Shapiro and have been looking forward to her new album ‘Something Else’ since we heard news of it late last year.
Luckily for us the wait is nearly over, and she has just shared a couple of tracks from it in advance of tomorrow’s U.S. release! Get ready to have a dance to ‘All My Life’ then cool things down with the jazz influenced ‘Sundown.‘ Doesn’t she have the sweetest voice?
‘Something Else’ will be available on iTunes from tomorrow.
Sally Shapiro resurfaced after what felt like an eternity of silence in November with lightweight italo-disco number ‘What Can I Do?‘ With that track came the announcement of a new album Somewhere Else which drops on February 26th via Paper Bag Records.
Her latest single ‘Starman’ is a collaboration with Electric Youth and a free mp3 is available via the price of an email address. Loving this today!
It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard from Sweden’s Sally Shapiro, whose pseudonym is probably one of my favorites ever. Two shakes away from a lullaby, ‘What Can I Do’ is a departure from the heavy italo dance anthems found on 09’s My Guilty Pleasure. It’s still got that italo-y feel to it, but Shapiro has introduced an acoustic element into her music which is always welcome.
With the new single comes the announcement of a new album Somewhere Else, which is definitely one to look forward to next year. Com Truise did a rework of the track, adding some of his touch to it. Listen below.
The release includes collaborations recorded around the world with CFCF, Sally Shapiro, Steve Moore, Fred Ventura, Ercola, Queen Of Hearts, Friday Bridge, Le Prix, Lake Heartbeat, Legowelt, Wolfram, and Halftone. What a line-up! We recently featured a track off the album Watch The World Go By on the site, check that out here.
Paper Bag recently released a full length cover album tribute to Madonna‘s True Blue, check that out here. - Matt
The first single comes in the form of Watch The World Go By, a futuristic pop/disco tune that’s got instant appeal. It features some of Sweden’s best – Le Prix and Lake Heartbeat. From what we hear on this track, it’s definitely going to be one of the most anticipated albums this year in the indie/electronic scene.
Recorded all over the world in places like Montreal, London and Milan, the full length will include collaborations with CFCF, Steve Moore (Lovelock, Zombi, Miracle),Sally Shapiro, Fred Ventura, Lake Heartbeat and Le Prix. What a roster of diverse talent! Paper Bag Records always has great releases so make sure to check out their roster! The video for track Above Your Head (this tiny little slice of heaven below) was shot by accliamed director/artist Milosh Luczynski in 360° with 8 cameras! Imagine being in a room where these images are flowing all around you…we totally can! - Matt
Things have been quiet on the Sally Shapiro front for a bit now, which makes me a little sad. Just when I thought i’d hit the pit of Italo-electro despair, a megamix of the remixes of tracks off the My Guilty Pleasure album has surfaced!
1. ‘Save Your Love’ (Lovelock Remix)
2. ‘Looking At The Stars’ (FM Attack Remix)
3. ‘Love In July’ (CFCF Remix)
4. ‘Miracle’ (Bogdan Irkük Remix)
5. ‘My Fantasy’ (Bottin Remix)
6. ‘Jackie Jackie’ (Junior Boys Vocal Remix)
7. ‘Love In July’ (Bostro Pesopeo Remix)
8. ‘Swimming Through The Blue Lagoon’ (Boat Club Remix)
9. ‘Let It Show’ (Low Motion Disco Remix)
Sweden is chock full of amazing talent, and FRIDAY BRIDGE is no exception. They’ve just released a new album called Bite My Tongue. Fans of Sally Shapiro will love the remix we have to share with you today by the man behind it all, Johan Agebjörn. I also hear a bit of Lykke Li in their material as well. Great indie electro-pop!
